3D Design and Sculpture

Constructing successfully with materials is fundamental to the production of work in 3D. This introductory project to 3D week looked at the challenges of working with found materials from the student own environment as well as producing sculptural work that responds to their environment. 3D is a discipline that calls for a sympathetic approach and and engagement with the space around us. This week long project focused on the use of the formal elements line, mass, volume, pattern and form to construct  architectural facades. The satudents began collecting a good range and variety of sticks, twigs, reeds and leaves. Once they had collected these materials the students were tasked with transforming these into a representation of a building. Taking advantage of the wealth and diversity of construction and styles that surround us here at the Arts Academy in Cardiff.
